The USA's second-largest city is famous for sprawl, and it has long confused visiting urbanites seeking a neighborhood to stroll around. Now transplants and part-timers are rediscovering downtown, which offers just that. "A lot of people from New York end up downtown, because it's the only place in L.A. they feel at home," says realtor Ted Trent, founder of Loft Living L.A.
